Waar gaat Run with the Wind over?
Kakeru, een voormalige eliterenner op de middelbare school, wordt achtervolgd omdat hij voedsel heeft gestolen. Hij wordt gered door Kansei University-student Haiji, die ook hardloper is. Haiji haalt Kakeru over om in het oude appartement 'Chikuseisou' te gaan wonen, waar hij van plan is samen te werken met medebewoners om deel te nemen aan de Hakone Ekiden Marathon, een van de meest prominente universiteitsraces in Japan. Kakeru komt er al snel achter dat alle bewoners, behalve Haiji en hijzelf, complete beginners zijn.

What answers wait for them at the ends of their roads? They reassure one another as they exchange words. Prince’s smile pushes Haiji’s quiet resolve forward. Kakeru eventually appears at the relay station, running at shocking speeds. Their dream lies before them. Kakeru passes to Haiji. Their sash unites them and their entire team.
